“Así fue mi padre” (“My Father, As I Knew Him”), by José Afredo Jiménez Medel, is a performance or “cultural happening” where the audience rediscovers the life and work of Mexico’s greatest singer-songwriter. José Alfredo Jiménez — El Rey, “The King”.
Hi oldest son, José Alfredo Jiménez Medel, leads us by the hand through his father’s life and music, presenting a marvelous collection of original anecdotes narrated by some of his father’s best friends, as well as never-before published photographs, memorable videos & testimonials that Medel has collected throughout his life – much of it material never before been seen in public.
This show dispels many of the doubts about the life of José Alfredo Jiménez, including: At what age did he begin to compose? For whom did he write this or that song? Is it true that he wrote songs on napkins?
These and many more questions will be answered, if not by his children and other family members then by some of his best friends, people who shared part of his personal and professional life.
“Así fue mi padre” is certain to delight, surprise and touch everyone in attendance.
(Will be presented in Spanish with English supertitles)
