San Diego Theatres welcomes the opportunity to work with you and to make your event a success.
The historic Balboa Theatre was originally opened in 1924 as a vaudeville house before being converted to a movie theatre in 1932. After a $26 million restoration and renovation by the City’s Redevelopment Agency, the Balboa Theatre located in the Gaslamp Quarter reopened in 2008 as a 1,339 seat performing arts venue. The Balboa Theatre is managed by San Diego Theatres on behalf of the Agency and the community. This venue will be treasured as an ideal site for music, dance, and drama as well as for civic, corporate and convention gatherings.

The historic Balboa Theatre in the Gaslamp Quarter is the site for San Diego Theatres’ presentations as well as a performing home for California Ballet, Classics 4 Kids, Mainly Mozart, San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus and other high quality non-profit producing and presenting organizations.
The Balboa Theatre and the Civic Theatre may be available for rental for cultural, entertainment, educational, civic, corporate and other special events and activities. While you may first check our website’s event calendar to determine scheduled public performances, the lack of an event listing does not necessarily mean that a particular date is open and available for rental. Some of our events are private functions that are not publicized. Additionally other dates may be unavailable due to load-ins, rehearsals, technical requirements, maintenance or other commitments.
Please contact us to discuss your potential event and desired dates. With that information, we will determine availability and feasibility for your contemplated use. Call us at (619) 615–4000 or email us at info@sandiegotheatres.org
To confirm a potential booking, a license agreement must be fully executed, license fees and expense deposits received, and required insurance coverage in place and certificates received.
